Provisions regarding breeding:
Breeding licenses obtained before January 1, 2025, will continue to be accepted for dogs with docked ears/tails of these breeds.
Dogs born before January 1, 2025, with docked ears and/or tails, can be judged for a breeding license if this is allowed by a joint decision of the breed care associations.
From January 1, 2025, if the dog is imported and has been naturalized by the Hungarian Kennel Club (MEOE Association), it is possible to include them in the breeding program, as this is permitted based on the joint decision of the breed care associations. However, participation in shows and working events is not permitted.
II. Breeds not affected by the FCI standard amendment:
The Hungarian Kennel Club (MEOE Association) introduces the following rules for all FCI breeds where the standard description includes the option of cropped ears/tails:
Participation at the Kennel Club’s events is not allowed for dogs born after January 1, 2025, with cropped ears and/or cropped tails. In the case of dogs born before January 1, 2025, with cropped ears/tails, participation at events is allowed until January 1, 2027.
This exception is justified by dogs born with genetically short tails and the following hunting dog breeds: FCI Group III. – Jagd terrier, or from FCI group VII., in which case the standard allows the participation of dogs with docked tails for hunting suitability.
Breeding regulations:
Breeding permits obtained before January 1, 2025, will continue to be accepted for dogs with docked ears/tails of all breeds.
Dogs born before January 1, 2025, of all FCI breed types, with docked ears and/or tails can be judged for a breeding license, as this is allowed based on a joint decision of the breed care associations.
From January 1, 2025, if the dog is imported and has been naturalized with the Hungarian Kennel Club (MEOE Association), the dog can be included in the breeding program, as this is allowed based on a joint decision of the breed care associations. However, its participation in shows and working events is not allowed.
This regulation is in accordance with the provisions of the European Union and the Hungarian Animal Protection Act. It only considers the importance of preserving genetic diversity and genetic values.
